My town, by Alícia Sedó

From Alícia to Maja Birgisdottir

Hello, Maja! How are you? You haven't written to me yet. I hope you will write me soon. Today, I’m going to talk about my town.

I live in Juneda, that it’s a town with about 3500 inhabitants situated near les Borges Blanques, the town where is our High School.
Juneda isn’t very big, but it’s a lovely place. There are lots of things to do and places to go every day.

There isn’t a High School there, but there is a Primary School, and a very big modern library. There’s a new music school too, where I go to learn music, sing on a chorus or play the guitar nearly every day.

There are lots of green squares where the children can play. There’s a church too, lots of food shops, a theatre (which is a cinema too), a sports centre where you can practise lots of diferent sports, a karting court, a town hall, an English centre, a small museum...

In our free time we buy sweets and we go walking through “la Banqueta” that it’s a very big and beautiful place where you can go walking or running. This natural park is very long. It has got more than 5 km of paths, where you can walk under the shadows of the trees and near a famous canal which has nine small falls. We love spending our weekends there.

In our summer holidays, we go to the swimming pools nearly every day. There are three swimming pools: the small for the babies, the medium for playing, and the bigger which is reservated only for swimming, but you can play there too. Next to the pools there are a soccer field, a paddle court, and a beach volleyball court.

Sometimes, when the weather is hot on summer, we do picnics or barbeques with our friends, and we eat meat and “calçots”, that are a special type of long and thin onions eaten in Catalonia. And we participate in a local competition too, where all the participants have to cook a traditionall grove stew with an earthenware pot  and a firewood oudoors like our grandparents did, following the tradition.

I love living in Juneda, because we always have a good time there.
